Birthdate: January 24, 1973

My name is Mesfin Gared. I am an Ethiopian. I was born in Addis Ababa-Ethiopia. I am the third in a family of four children. My father, on whom all the burden of the family rested, died while I was a secondary school student. The death of my father made the family’s problem more serious. However, with a lot of life struggles I managed to finish high school and joined university. Due to my country’s political problem, I was forced to come to Kenya.
Here in Kenya, I came to know Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I had served in my church choir and evangelism ministry. While I was serving in the church I felt the call of God in my life.
I was convicted of the need of ministering and sharing the love of God to the street people was a priority in my life. I joined a Christian organization called African Growth Ministry (AGM) whose main purpose was preaching the Gospel, feeding, counseling and rehabilitating the street people in the city of Nairobi. I voluntarily served for three years in AGM.
At present, I am serving as a mentor and a teacher in a church project called Detour, which gives free English classes and spiritual assistance to young Ethiopian refugees.
After I finish my studies at Daystar University, I plan to continue to equip myself in the area of organizational leadership and international relations. This is so that I can be able to serve my country, Africa and the world effectively and efficiently in the area of development.
