MEET THE TEAM
Our small office in Bloomington, Minnesota is passionate about its mission to mobilize resources for Daystar University to advance the education of Christian Servant-Leaders to transform Africa and the world.
Afrizo Coordinator (Executive Director, retired)
Fearless Leader | Fun Lover
I began my career teaching elementary school in Stillwater, MN and spent most of my career at Minnehaha Academy, a private Christian PreK-12 school in Minneapolis. As Director of Development there, I completed a $12,000,000 capital campaign.
I've been married to Bob for 43 years. We have 2 wonderful children, Kari and Ryan, and a great daughter-in-law, Julie. All teachers. Joy of our life is our 4 year old grandson, Tobin, who keeps us busy and laughing, and hopefully young. Life is good!
Favorite junk food: POTATO CHIPS
Favorite season: Summer, of course!
Life-long Learner | African Heart
I first fell in love with Africa and Daystar University in 1996. My dad invited me to come along on the trip, and even offered to pay the airfare – thanks dad! I currently serve with great co-workers in the Daystar U.S. office and I am transitioning into this new leadership role. I am very grateful to God and those around me for building into my life.
I am married to my best friend, Sheila, and we have been blessed with six children. I am very excited for my recent graduation from Bethel University.
Favorite cupcake: Carrot cake
Favorite Book: Ben Hur
Current Life Verse: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
Creativity Extraordinaire | Analytical Sherlock Holmes
I moved to DC and worked in an office furniture dealership for 12 years. I was privileged to see the insides of many buildings and offices not open to the general public and gain a better understanding of the history of our country firsthand. I've been back in Minnesota for 20 years and have honed my accounting skills in many industries including manufacturing, radio, marketing, computer, and nonprofit.
My dream was to find a Christian, nonprofit organization that I could call my home and Daystar U.S. has answered that prayer. In the four years I have worked for this organization the students and faculty at Daystar University have touched my heart and I feel bless to be a part of this great organization.
Favorite cake: Ice cream cake
Favorite book: God is an Englishman
Assistant and Project Coordinator
Community Builder | Thoughtful Ponderer
I began learning about the importance of customer service during my first (and fun) job at a local Dairy Queen! Since then, I have enjoyed helping make the lives of clients and colleagues easier with positions at a university career counseling office and a supporting vendor to the aviation industry.
I am driven by relationships and am drawn to cultural diversity. Currently, my husband and I love serving the local Somali community here in the Twin Cities through soccer, tutoring, and friendship.
Favorite hobby: Sewing
Favorite Bible verse: “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
Country Soul | Spicy Food Lover
I currently serve as an Assistant Treasurer for my church and worked as an Operations Clerk 2 for Wells Fargo before coming to Daystar U.S. I enjoy working with numbers and handling the necessary details behind the scenes.
A dream of mine is to produce a documentary exploring the various tribal groups and learning about their history. I love to travel, read theological books, and go on new hiking trails.
Favorite fruit: Mangoes
Favorite author: David Platt
Optimistic Bridge-Builder | Impact Focused
I love to learn from my brothers and sisters in Africa and South Asia where my family lived and served the past 7 years. It was a joy to be involved in installing water hand pumps and providing basic education in villages without clean water and without the good news of Jesus
I became passionate about Daystar University through my strong friendship with a Daystar graduate, Julius, who became my mentor while in graduate school. I am inspired by the great faith of others and how God can multiply our efforts as we work together.
I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my wife, Mercy, and our two children. I also enjoy reading books and the news.
Favorite fruit: Watermelon
Favorite team: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Favorite quote: "Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God."
Brand Enthusiast | Coffee Nerd
I first learned the importance of good marketing through managing coffee shops and venues. I love getting to play a part in sharing other people's hard work with others, whether it's a coffee grower, an artist, or a neighbor. My favorite thing is listening to new friends share their stories and helping them make connections that will be of value to them and to the world. It is a real joy to use these skills in an organization with such a strong faith-based mission.
I love attending concerts of all sorts and going on adventures with my dog, Wonderdog. I also enjoy traveling and am looking forward to my upcoming trip to New Zealand.
Favorite coffee drink: Miel
(Current) Favorite band: King's Kaleidoscope
