Daystar University Fire-Emergency Update February 2000

Tragically more than 200 students lost their homes
and belongings

In December 1998, Daystar University students were devastated by a fire which swept through substandard non-Daystar housing at Athi River. In all, 204 lost their rooms and many of their personal belongings. Generous contributions helped provide $10,000 in direct aid to the most needy students to replace lost clothing and important documents. Another $10,000 was used to feed, temporarily house and transport students who relocated to Nairobi. Finally, the gifts helped provide another $104,984.88 to construct low-cost student housing. In January 2000, 96 students moved into the four units which contain cooking areas for students to prepare their own meals and furniture produced in Daystar's on-campus woodworking shop. There are so many we thank for helping us address the fire-emergency challenge. Because of these wonderful friends, God has provided safe and cost effective accommodations for students. |

With four units now occupied, Daystar University plans
to build another 48 rooms in 2000 to allow more students to live on
campus and provide alternatives to current substandard facilities in
the community.
