Building in Nairobi Campus Handed Over The new building at Nairobi Campus was
handed over to the University on Monday last week. Present
during the handing over ceremony was the University Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Prof.
Godfrey Nguru, the DVC (Academic), Prof. Samuel Katia, the DVC (FAP), Prof.
Philip Kitui, the Corporate Affairs Manager, Mrs. Rosemary Kinoti, the Dean of
Postgraduate Studies, Mr. James Kombo, the Administration Manager, Mrs. Rhoda
Igosangwa, among other administrators. The
construction crew included the architect, Mr. Kamawe Nugi of Associated Architects
and Hirani Patel, who represented the contractors, K.G. Patel and Sons Ltd. The
handing over involved floor-by-floor inspection noting faulty areas that need
immediate correction. Another inspection
session will be carried out after six
months. The
new building will house the Vice-Chancellor's suite, an executive boardroom, an
E-learning centre, two lecturer rooms and offices for the Vice-Chancellor. The
University Chaplain Rev. Joseph Mbunga led in a short devotion after which the
contractors handed over the key to the Vice-Chancellor, who opened the building. The
Vice-Chancellor noted that the University has only received the building and that
an appropriate date would be set to dedicate the facility. Peer
Education Program Graduates 69 Trainees Daystar
University Peer Educators (DUPE) last week graduated 69 trainees. The graduation ceremony was presided over by
the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Godfrey
Nguru. Their
training program began on 1st March and ended on 24th April. The training was coordinated by Nairobi Campus
Chaplain Rev. Evangeline M'Mutungi and facilitated by Mrs. Silvia Tuikong, Mabel
Odima, and Miss Ruth Imbuye among others. Speaking
during the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the facilitators for the training
saying that staff available to offer counselling are limited and hence,
more peer educators were needed to serve the Daystar population. He said that the trained educators have a big
responsibility in their hands as they have to conduct themselves in a manner expected
of educators. The
Peer Educators had been trained previously as Peer Counsellors to support the
pastoral care given by the Chaplains and Counsellors in the University. The
graduates will offer their services not only to the Daystar community but also
to neighbouring educational institutions. Website
Elicits Positive Feedback The
new look of the Daystar University website has attracted some positive feedback
from users especially the Alumni. One
alumnus, Priscilah Matekai who graduated in 1994 wrote to express her amazement
with the changes that have occurred in Daystar since then. Her letter read in part: "I was impressed
when I visited Daystar's website and saw all the changes we ever wanted when I
was still a student there. I congratulate
the new administration
since for sure, the place is transformed. It
is a place that people can for sure praise God and be blessed. I graduated in
1994 and it is just amazing to see the many changes that took place within a very
short time. May
God bless the work going on in Daystar and I wish the present students would make
the best out of it. Continue the work
that Christ began in you". The
Alumnus, who is currently pursuing further studies in the US, stated that she
would be happy to visit Daystar when she returns to Kenya. DCF
