Cabinet Dispute in Kenya

A disagreement over the size of the Cabinet and portfolio balance has delayed naming of a new coalition Cabinet. The PNU and ODM representatives could not agree on who should get the Finance, Information and Communication, Immigration and Local Government seats among other key ministries.

This stalemate continues to raise anxiety among Kenyans and hinders economic growth as well as proper functioning of Government. Businesses owned by families of our students affected by post-election violence continue to suffer.

We request Daystar friends to keep praying for God to intervene so that our lives can return to normalcy. Many students are still struggling to raise their fee balances in order to sit for their forthcoming exams.

We thank God for the many heroes who came to our aid in providing financial support to students affected by post-election violence. You are truly Daystar Heroes!

Daystar University is grateful to God for hearing and answering our cry for peace in Kenya.

Monday, March 04, 2008 was a special day! President Kibaki and ODM leader Raila Odinga met for the first time without mediators to prepare for a coalition Government. The acrimony of the past two months from the disputed presidential election results is behind them.

And yesterday parliament was officially opened to discuss four historic bills that will create a new constitutional order in Kenya. Issues to be discussed will range from legislating the newly created power structure to correcting the historical injustices that bitterly pit communities against one another.

For us at Daystar we continue to focus the whole community on God and His will for Kenya even as we celebrate the new environment. On Saturday 1st March 2008 our staff had yet another healing and reconciliation retreat. Through this event individual staff received healing and prayed for our nation.

We thank God for Daystar University Heroes who sacrificially provided financial support to students affected by the post election violence. Through this giving more than 44 students can now attend class through the partial relief we allocated them from the Hero Fund. We however still have a long way to go to cover the tuition needs even of these that we have allocated. Besides, there are still many other students that are yet to receive any help. We request you to pray for God to provide for these needy and traumatized students.

Kindly continue to pray for our country that God will prosper the new coalition government and the people of Kenya for His Glory.
