My name is Eric Niyitunga, and I’m a citizen of Burundi.  One of my parents was a Hutu and another a Tutsi, so when our country fell into civil war, it was hard for us to associate with either side. We had to flee from our home.  I went to neighboring Congo to seek protection, but it was not to be because war broke out in Congo soon after that.  After a chain of struggles I managed to flee to Kenya where I now live under the protection of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Through all this God has been with me, and he has given me the grace to live each new day and forget the past.  He has even given me the grace to forgive those who killed my relatives and drove us out of our country.

Here at Daystar University, I am already working with Daystar Christian Fellowship’s Sunday School Ministry. I chose to work with this ministry because it is by developing the children that future generations will have hope.

The knowledge I acquire from Daystar will help me in preaching Peace wherever I am as I try and transform my people. Because I’m at a Christian University, my faith in Christ is strengthened and deepened.  I hope my training at Daystar will help me eradicate structures that cause injustice and instead promote equitable distribution of resources.  I want to do this because I know we are all created equal before our God.
My training at Daystar will also enable me to help people who are traumatized by war, by establishing reconciliation and forgiveness groups.  I hope to teach about peace based on Biblical principles, especially in my native country of Burundi.
