Abel honored as field hockey most valuable player.

As part of his degree in Community Development, Abel is completing his field attachment this semester at Ukarimu Ministries, a faith-based community organization across the road from the Daystar Main Campus in Athi River. Ukarimu Ministries was begun as a student fellowship and outreach ministry by Chip and Chari Kingsbury, former staff at Daystar and now includes a couples and marriage counseling component. Abel continues attending classes, while applying four years of study in a professional setting, supporting administrative operations, organizational communication, record management, and program implementation. Through this experience he is gaining practical skills in community development while contributing to initiatives that serve and support the local community. He remains on track to graduate with Honors in November 2026.

Abel also achieved a significant milestone outside the classroom this year. He plays field hockey for the Daystar Falcons team, and was awarded the Most Valuable Player trophy at the Falcon of Character (FOCA) 2025/2026 Awards after finishing as his team’s top scorer with 16 goals and 12 assists. Together the team advanced to the National League playoffs. Participating in sports has reinforced the same values that have sustained him throughout his academic journey: discipline, consistency, resilience, and the determination to keep moving forward even when circumstances are difficult. Abel also appreciates the stress relief that is afforded by playing sports.

Many students come from humble backgrounds, overcoming personal and financial challenges to finish a university degree, particularly those who are the first in their families to receive a higher education. Because of financial concerns, Abel struggled through his first three years at Daystar before being awarded a scholarship, which allowed him the freedom to focus on the finish line. He is poised to give back to his community when he completes his degree at Daystar.

As he reflected what has helped through this academic journey, Abel said, “My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. This verse gives me strength in moments of doubt and reminds me that with God, nothing is impossible. Every time I feel weak, it reminds me that my strength comes from Him, not from my circumstances. I hold onto this promise as I continue walking this journey of faith, education, and service."
