"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Dear Friends,
Perhaps you have heard that there has been unrest in Kenya recently. While we strive to stay out of politics we would like you to be informed about what’s happening in Kenya, and we would request that you keep the country and activities in your prayers.
Recently a Kenyan blogger (known for being critical of politic and social issues) was taken by police from his home and family in an afternoon, brought to Nairobi where he later died in police custody. This fueled already planned protests for June 25th, the one-year anniversary of an anti-finance bill protest. July 7th is a date that commemorates the 1990 call for a multi-party political system. This date sparked more protests this year.
Many Kenyans are concerned about the current social climate in Kenya. Young people (Gen Z) have turned to protests as a way to be heard in their concerns over rising unemployment, rising costs of living, and corruption on high levels. Over the past year many activists have died or disappeared, presumed at the hands of authorities. It also appears that people have been hired to stir up trouble (to make the protests more violent), excusing the force then used against peaceful protesters. This creates a confusing situation, especially when innocent people need the help authorities.
Our Vice Chancellor, Laban Ayiro, shared, "Difficult times for our country. Please pray for the leadership to exercise tolerance and humility. Thank you all for your prayer and concern."
Please be praying for Kenya.
Police officers would use a peaceful approach to dealing with protesters.
While young people are concerned and upset about the corruption and economic situation that they would use wisdom in how to make their opinions known.
Those in power in Kenya would hear the concerns of the young people and make real lasting strides in policy changes for the welfare of all people in Kenya.
