Would you be willing to take some time today and pray for Daystar University and Kenya? The situation is becoming desperate for so many who have so little in Kenya - more than half of the population in Nairobi live in slum conditions and the unemployment rate in Kenya was over 40% BEFORE COVID-19! We were told by a Daystar University colleague that problems tend to arrive in three’s and that is currently true for the country of Kenya.
Prayers for Kenya
1. COVID-19: The government has blocked any travel in and out of the greater Nairobi area, which also includes a dusk to dawn curfew. Many of the people in the slums have no water to regularly wash and there is not a steady supply of water. Food is also hard to get for those living in these difficult conditions.
2. Flooding: Rains have arrived and flooding has become a major issue. 170 people died in western Kenyan due to floods.
3. Locusts: There have been massive swarms of locusts in Kenya, which had laid their eggs and now the 2nd generation is hatching. The numbers in these swarms are estimated to reach into the billions.
Prayers for Daystar University
1. Finances: Please pray for Daystar University, as this is a very trying time, both in carrying out the mission and in finances. More than 90% of Daystar’s operating budget is from student tuition – right now, students and their families are struggling to pay; this means Daystar currently does not have the funds needed to operate.
2. Technology and Internet: 10 – 20% of Daystar University students still do not have access to online classes, as many do not have internet and others do not have a computer or even a smart phone.
3. Peace for everyone at Daystar: Our Daystar University counselors have been quite busy taking calls from not just worried students, but also fellow staff and faculty members.
