On Whose Foundation?

A Message from President Laban

Staying on Course

IMG_0431.JPG

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

The Christian life can be likened to a race with a finish line in eternity. Our goal is to stay on track and run with endurance, but we won’t know the way forward unless we focus on Jesus. Because He ran the race perfectly, He can show us the way.

As with any long-term race, the course is full of obstacles that threaten to trip or sidetrack us. Temptations lure us to what we imagine are lush green pastures, while busyness can lead us down rabbit trails that end in exhaustion. Worry and fear grab hold of our mind, and emotions take us places the Lord never intended for us to go.

Although sins are the most obvious threat, anything that takes precedence over our relationship with the Lord can send us down the wrong path. It’s easy to let our families, jobs, and pleasures distract us from a wholehearted pursuit of Christ. Surprisingly, even God’s blessings can hinder us if we start to prioritize them over the Lord.

For us as believers, the goal isn’t to focus on the path or find our own way. We’re to fix our eyes on Jesus—He’s our foundation, guide and destination, and He will welcome us home when we cross the finish line into eternity. That is my Prayer for you the Daystar Community as we seek to make this university the fountain that will strive for Excellence, be Transformational and produce Servant Leaders for God’s Kingdom.

Update from Gladys Shila, Daystar Christian Fellowship Vice-Chairperson

My name is Gladys Shila. I am a Kenyan and currently studying at Daystar University, pursuing Communication concentrating in Public Relations and International Relations. I am in my last year. I would begin by saying that Daystar University has formed, transformed and molded me to be the the person that I am today. It is always a miracle and a testimony to me having joined Daystar University because my parents were very rich to afford Daystar financially. Daystar University has always believed that I was created for a purpose, to live for God’s purpose.

It was the greatest decision I ever made and I give glory to God for taking me through the three years of my studies. I have learned a lot about leadership since i have been a leader from my first year and this contributed to my spiritual growth. One thing I love about Daystar is its core values; Excellence, Transformation and Servant leadership and also being a Christian-based University with Christian values Good foundations and values have been instilled in me.

Serving as a leader at different capacities in Daystar has taught me alot as I’ve served at Daystar Christian Fellowship (DCF) as the Vice Chairperson. It has never been easy serving in this position, however, it has been a learning experience as I am fulfilling God’s purpose in the office. Daystar teaches us not only to be leaders but  be servant leaders following the example of Jesus as the ultimate servant-leader. In the DCF office we deal with spiritual nurturing programs through Bible study sessions, fellowships, outreach and inreach missions, and prayer retreats. This is to ensure that everybody discovers their purpose in their lives. We also do support our students in need through devotions from fellow students and staff. We serve international students in our midst to help them feel at home far away from their home countries. I was also privileged to serve at Daystar Compassion and Care Centre (DCCC) as the Vice President. DCCC is a branch of the community life Department in Daystar. We create awareness on various health issues and also provide mental health support for students and staff.

Regarding the Coronavirus pandemic, we continue praying for God’s intervention. As we do this I pray that it will be an eye opener to everyone and learn that situations and seasons might change but God will never change. Lets remain faithful to Him because He is aware of what is currently happening and He has got all the answers .

Finally, I would like to thank Daystar U.S for your support for Daystar students especially financially. Your prayers also have been of great help. Also we are grateful for your support towards the DCF office financially and through prayers as we continue spreading God’s love and winning souls for God’s kingdom. Your support to us is incomparable. We continue to spread the love of God together and we continue to pray for you because you are a blessing to us.

Build on Christ, our Firm Foundation

Daystar Announces Chapel Theme

I am thankful that Laban reminded us of the true foundation during these uncertain days. Jesus Christ is the only sure foundation. President Laban wrote, "We’re to fix our eyes on Jesus—He’s our foundation, guide and destination, and He will welcome us home when we cross the finish line into eternity. That is my prayer for you the Daystar Community as we seek to make this university the fountain that will strive for excellence, be transformational and produce Servant Leaders for God’s Kingdom."

My previous email mentioned the death of George Floyd; many of you have shared your thoughts and views – thank you! I appreciate hearing different viewpoints and I would love to hear from more of you! I continue to learn and grow – thank you for taking the time to invest into my life.

I appreciate a board member sharing with me, “As Christians, we thankfully don't have to see these events through the lens of politics or media but through the lens of the gospel of Jesus Christ communicated to us through God's Holy Word.” Our focus remains on educating Christ-centered servant leaders to transform Africa. We will keep sharing stories of transformation, as told through the voices of those making the difference in their families, communities and throughout Africa.

Blessings,

Alan
