Daystar Nurses Bring Hope for the Future
(Jan. 21st, 2021)

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Jeremiah 29:11, NIV

When I spend time with Daystar students it gives me great hope for the future of Africa and the world. These students exude confidence that God has plans to "give them hope and a future." Because of your support Daystar University is the only university in Kenya with a scholarship program! This is critical for the education of the next generation of leaders in Africa - thank you!

Another area of great hope and encouragement during a difficult season is the Daystar Nursing School, the only nursing program open in all of Kenya during Covid-19. There are now close to 300 students in the program, including an amazing increase of 158 new students for this current semester!  All of last year’s graduates were able to receive immediate internships and are vital in hospitals throughout Kenya.  They are bringing hope to so many struggling in hospitals during the pandemic.  Please be encouraged by messages from Nursing students Caroline and Catherine (click below).

Thank you for believing in the potential of these students through your support and prayers!

Blessings,

Alan

Executive Director, Daystar U.S.

P.S. Next week we will be asking you to join us in a week of prayer, please be watching for our emails.

Thanks from from Daystar Nursing Students!

Catherine, an orphan raised in the slums of Nairobi, aims to use her Daystar education to help those in need through nursing.

“I am the second born in a family of seven; three brothers and three sisters, however, I grew up with my brother and late grandmother where life was very challenging and school was never important. In 2010, I was privileged to join Cana Rescue Center as an orphan. Education no longer became a problem as before. Cana has been my home for the last eleven years.
Joining Cana in the year 2010 was also the beginning of my journey in Christ as I was born again that same year on April 24th. Several years down the line, I can tell that this was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had no specific reason for getting to know Christ then, I just felt the urge to do so. Since then, Christ has been my stronghold and has been manifesting Himself in my life through different people and opportunities given.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be under the Daystar scholarship program pursuing a degree in Nursing. This has been my dream career. I am very passionate about other people’s wellness and I have always felt like this is the right career for me. Having lived in Mukuru slums, I have witnessed the suffering of different people who needed care. Driven by the urge to help all those with health issues, I think it is my calling to become a nurse. Since high school, I have always enjoyed being part of the music team and performing at music festivals. I would like to be part of the music team to better my skills and serve the Lord at Daystar.

With focus and determination and with God by my side, I cannot wait to venture into the career I have always dreamed of. I aspire to be a source of inspiration to others and to do my best. The challenges I have been through since childhood have contributed enormously into shaping the person I am today. I keep reminding myself that I have to strive hard to have my own possessions since I have none to inherit from. Not forgetting every piece of advice I have received, I can say these have guided me all through my journey. It is always a pleasure meeting different people who have made it in life despite their challenging pasts. Their stories inspire me to carry on.

God has been faithful all along, sustaining me through the years for an opportunity like this and those that are yet to come. It is my duty to share with the rest of the world of the great and mighty deeds of the Lord. Christ is my priority in all circumstances and will always be so even in my nursing career. He assures me of hope in the unknown and I will encourage others too with this assurance. So far, my first semester has been successful. I have been able to interact with different students and lecturers. Who wouldn't want to be in such a school full of God-fearing, selfless, kind and humble people? I am humbled.

In the near future, I hope to proceed with my studies, by God’s grace, to get my masters and probably my PhD, trusting that an opportunity will avail itself. I would also like to practice my nursing career to help improve the wellness of different people not only in my country but also around the world and also not forgetting to share with them the message and God's overwhelming love for us. I am very grateful for Daystar for entrusting me with this golden opportunity. To my sponsor, I cannot thank you enough. I am humbled and I thank God for you. Thank you and God bless you all so much. Thank you.
