Update and Prayer for Students Returning
(Oct. 9, 2020)

"Call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
Psalm 50:15, NIV

Thank you for your prayers for the great needs at Daystar because of the effects of Covid-19. Since the government allowed for a phased opening to campuses in Kenya beginning on October 5th, Daystar has responded with plans for moving forward.  Here are more of the details:

  • All students registered for the August 2020 Semester will continue with classes online. They will now be able to access the physical library on either campus while their classes remain online.  They will continue to have a 15% reduction of tuition fees.

  • There will be a special short semester on campus for all students who were not able to attend online classes for various reasons.  This semester is from October 19 – December 23.

  • Postgraduate students can now have in-person thesis and dissertation defenses, seminars and contact with seminars.

What an incredible privilege that God invites us all to "Call on me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you, and you will honor me'.  I invite you to join me in praying for staff and faculty who are preparing to reopen the campuses and for those students who will be returning to the Athi River and Nairobi campuses on the 19th.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer!

Blessings,

Alan

Vanessa shares her vision to bring change through technology.

Vanessa Kamunya (18-1104)-2.jpg

“I live by Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, “Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” I don’t trust my efforts anymore because I know God is in control of my life and I recognize his presence everywhere. I’m pursuing a degree in Applied Computer Science at Daystar and I look forward to bringing my values of positivity and hard work to the Daystar community.

Upon graduation, I would like to start my career as a developer and plan to bring development to my country. I want to be part of making Kenya realize Vision 2030 through technology and aim to industrialize and transform Kenya, especially through science, technology and innovation and ICT. To thank the Lord for all he has done and his manifestation in my life, I will ask for his guidance and help to establish a program for underprivileged girls, especially those from marginalized areas, to attend semiannual training throughout high school, with training on Computer Technology where they learn to program and code and get career guidance and mentorship. I want to help girls who do not get opportunities to be able to expand their job opportunities so that they become economically independent and in turn help others do the same.

After the Covid-19 pandemic and schools closing down in early March, I had to change my learning strategies to be able to complete the second half of the semester. This has not been easy with the fact that being at home comes with many distractions. Having three younger siblings who disrupt my learning, the high cost of data plans to continue with zoom online lectures and online submission of assignments and having to do house chores as the eldest child. These are some of the factors that hinder my learning at home, but I have tried to adjust accordingly so that I do not fall behind on school while excelling in my classes. My stipend increment has also gone a long way to help me buy the data plans to do online learning. All this would not be possible without the gracious support of you and for that I thank you again for the immense financial support I receive during my quest for an education. Thank you for believing in me and may God bless you boundlessly.

ENDOWMENTS
Our scholarship endowments are the financial building blocks to help Daystar look to the future with confidence.  An endowment gift is the single most important way to make the university available to students for years to come.  As the endowments grow, Daystar can expand its ability to challenge and nourish lives.  When you help with a deferred gift, you take a very personal stake in the kind of education that builds Christian character as it creates an environment of academic excellence.

PLANNED GIVING
Through planned gifts you can support Daystar University while improving your financial security. In fact, just one planned gift can return an immediate tax deduction to you, plus lifetime income for you and a loved one, plus long-term financial support to Daystar.
